The number of different ability combinations is immense, and it’s fun just seeing what kind of chaos you can create. It’s absolutely worth trying. SEXY GAMES
Rounds is ridiculously fun, but with mods it’s god-tier. Thankfully, all modding entails is installing a client that does all the dirty work for you. When you want to play your game modded, you just launch the game from there. For only six dollars, it’s a great game to play with friends. Word of advice, though: if you’re going to be playing this locally, make sure nobody is using a mouse and keyboard. I can say from experience that M+K beats a controller every day of the week in this game and creates a skill imbalance so huge that it makes what would otherwise be funny gameplay frustrating. With a mod, a player on controller can have a crosshair. Playing the game vanilla, you’ll be given a general idea of where you’re supposed to be shooting.
after both you and you opponent both pick a card the battle starts.
You both get spawned into an arena and must kill each other. And the main things you can do besides moving and jumping around the map is firing your gun which you can fire a certain amount of times before having to reload. The other thing you can do is use a block ability which if you use right before you get shot it will reflect the bullets away. And each round is a best two of three. So first person to win 2 fights actually wins the round and the loser gets to select another ability from a random selection of 5 cards. So the game has this awesome balance to it where if you are doing really good or you have a really good build and you are winning constantly the opponent is going to get more and more abilities to come back. And I have to say, the way that the abilities combo with each other are absolutely amazing. You can get some insanely op builds where you are firing a machine gun of grenades that also leave poison trails and stun the enemy or something where you have an insane amount of health and you have lifesteal and can place down healing fields. And as someone that plays wayyyyy to many roguelites and roguelikes having a 1v1 multiplayer roguelike that actually allows you to get more powerful and and get these insanely op builds is absolutely awesome. The one thing I will say is that I would absolutely love to see even more variety in the cards that get offered to you. After playing the game for a couple of hours I am seeing a lot of repeats in the cards.
Super fun, and surprisingly addictive.
Super fun, and surprisingly addictive. The idea to let the loser evolve new powers and combo their kit up is genius, and makes matches surprisingly close and sweaty a lot of the time. At least half of my games come down to the final round, and the builds can be any combination of straightforward, weird, effective, broken, hilarious, and/or suicidal. It’s been a while since I laughed out loud so much while playing a competitive game. All this needs is faster matchmaking (sometimes it’s lightning quick but sometimes takes a minute or two, probably from it being new and not having a massive playerbase), maybe a few more ideas for perks/cards, and (this would be ideal) some kind of bot to fight offline, especially if you can do it while queuing for matches. Overall though, this was very, very well spent. Post-pandemic this is one I’ll be forcing lots of friends to play with me locally. and that’s totally okay for the common cards but I really would love more rare and epic cards to spice things up. And to be fair this is only a released as Landfall game’s April fools joke because they release a small game like this every April 1st apparently so the amount of content that you already get for a small little experience is totally worth it I just obviously want to see even more. The maps in the game are all very different and they each benefit certain strategies over each other which is awesome and there’s a lot of visual variety to keep the game feeling fresh and the soundtrack is an absolute banger as well.
ROUNDS Steam Reviews
After StickFight and Clustertruck, Landfall lands another hit with Rounds. The premise is simple yet innovative – fight in 1v1 battles for supremacy by depleting your opponents life with your weapon. The Roguelike-Cardsystem is a great addition and makes the game especially hooky! If you’re into 1v1/Arenafighters or Indiegames in general, don’t miss out on this gem, this will be among Nidhogg and similar titles in no time! Mind you – the game also has a great online mode, so even during the Covid-Arc this game is fine! I love this game. It’s simple but fun – easy to pick up and there’s room for growth and mastery. It can be a bit buggy at times and there are some latency issues, but honestly the game is supposed to be stupid fun so it’s not a big deal unless you’re a competitive player. PICO PARK
(like I am inclined to be at times). But honestly, there’s no benefit to playing this game super competitively – there are no leaderboards or stats to keep track of so you’ll get more out of it if you mess around and enjoy the imperfections. Plus the game has plenty of mods available which are easy to download and set up with the Thunderstore Mod Manager, ranging from major bug fixes to new card packs and game modes. If that’s not your thing though, you’ll still be getting your money’s worth with what the vanilla game has to offer. Really, the only thing I would really want from this game is a custom mode, allowing you to tweak various rules, such as how many rounds there can be, how many cards a player can pick from their random pool between rounds, and maybe even a custom rule.
