For those of you who are not familiar with the original Circle Empires the premise in Circle Empires Rivals is pretty simple. The kingdom is separated into a number of different circular worlds that are connected to its neighboring circles.
As for the combat it is pretty much what you would expect out of a RTS. As you gather resources you will start to acquire an army. The game features a ton of different types of units including infantry, ranged, mounted, magic, healing, and other special creatures. Each type of unit has different costs as well as strengths and weaknesses. The combat is pretty simple as you just select your units and tell them where to go or what units to target. Then the units just attack any enemy units they encounter. You can use your units to defend your base along with your towers and walls. In addition you can also target a neighboring circle in order to capture it. You just need to kill all of the enemy units as well as any buildings on the circle. Myth of Empires
When this is done you will control the circle allowing you to build buildings and gather resources from it. When you first see Circle Empires Rivals the game may seem like your typical RTS and in many ways it is. Outside of the circle mechanics Circle Empires Rivals is very similar to your typical RTS game. You gather resources to build up your army to attack and destroy your opponents. All of these mechanics are pretty much the same as any other RTS game. If you have ever played a RTS before you should have a good idea about whether you would enjoy Circle Empires Rivals. If you have never cared for RTS games I see no reason why Circle Empires Rivals would change your mind. For fans of the genre I think there is a lot to like about the game.

Thanks to the game’s basic layout, there are also plenty of game modes to shake things up. Including the three ones from the previous game (Monster Hunt, Total Conquest, and Imperial Conflict), there is also the multiplayer-only King Hunt that focus their attacks on enemy kings, a roguelike mode where resources don’t respawn, and Stop the Army where an unreasonably large army has to be defeated to win. These gamemodes also help you unlock your potential leaders, and there’s plenty of them. Each leader gives you a starting bonus and a bonus unit or building when you take a circle and you unlock more of them by winning games with other leaders. It allows for a good unlock loop that allows you to try out new leaders and strategies. Age of Empires IV
The big shift from this game to the original is the introduction of multiplayer. This alone makes it the superior choice. It allows for players to have both multiplayer and co-op with plenty of options to fine-tune your game. However, finding an open game was difficult in the beta, and it’s easy to get impatient. Luckily, there is a heavy focus on Discord that allows for you to find like-minded players in the game’s community. There should be more players to fight against once the game is out of the beta, but it’s neat to see a greater focus on Discord in more recent titles. What makes Circle Empires: Rivals stand out is its relative accessibility. Since units, advanced units, and research are the three main menus, there isn’t as much juggling as in an Age of Empires.
If you’ve played the 2018 release, or the popular 2016 demo, which laid the foundation for it, then you’ll already understand the basics here. Each circle is one of a variety of biomes; you can harvest the resources (gold, wood, food) which you can then use to build buildings or spawn troops. Buildings can be defensive (towers, walls), productive (forestry hut, creating trees), or resource generative (like banks, or markets). Most of your economy work will be based around placing buildings in the more secure areas, although there’s definitely room for flexibility depending on your pace of play. Spawning troops, however, is probably what you’ll spend most of your time doing. That’s because even in the solo modes — but especially in the online modes — you’re either strong or losing. Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires
There’s even a stat for that, Strength. It’s a number generated by adding up numbers assigned to each unit and, for humans, it appears as a massive, glaring indicator of how you will do. However, there’s a lot more at play in the game, something that Circle Empires veterans might understand, but new players won’t. Strength ignores effectiveness; as a matter of fact, it’s almost arbitrary. If you have 300 horse archers, then you’ll be given a statistic. However, spearmen are extremely effective against mounted troops, and ‘strength’ doesn’t take any of this into consideration. As historians will tell you, pre and early rifle-based war is a messy cesspit. Circle Empires Rivals has acid towers, and there are also snakey boys who can breathe out a big ol’ jet of fire that can light up.
